What an End to 2019!
I spent the first part of November traveling to Helsinki, Finland, and Tallinn, Estonia where I enjoyed 10 days of fun, friends and fantastic sights! I had the opportunity to try bear, elk and reindeer at a traditional Finnish restaurant. I had the chance to see amazing architecture, learn about gin distilling, beer brewing and wine production. I had the opportunity to explore a Communist Command Center and learn about the ghosts and history of Tallinn.
My biggest new experience was definitely a polar plunge in to the Baltic Sea – something that was scary, yet thrilling, at the same time! See my previous blog all about that:
Once home, I decided to try something a little less adventurous, but equally as interesting. I took a Fencing Class at Salle D’etroit Fencing Academy in Livonia. I’m not sure how this happened, but I took absolutely pictures!
But I had fun.
I learned the difference between, a foil, and epee and a sabre. I learned the basic stance and how to move forwards and backwards to attack and retreat. I learned what a quad workout fencing is! I’d highly suggest trying this out!
In December, Sophia and I went to the Toledo Museum of Art and checked on the Yayoi Kusama, Fireflies on the Water solo art experience! I have to admit, that I’ve never been the only one in an art exhibit on purpose. This art is a set of infinity mirror rooms, where you stand on a dais above water to just be alone with your thoughts for 60 seconds. What a unique experience!
Since learning about Yayoi Kusama, her art installations are popping up all over the world. In 2020, you can see her work in:
- New York City
- Berlin
- Boston
- London
- Los Angeles
- Pittsburgh
- Tokyo
What an amazing 2019 of new experiences – 25 new and amazing things that expanded my horizons, challenged me and made me a better person! Let’s see what 2020 holds!
