Exploring the Enchanting Heidelberg
Our adventure continued as we set off for the picturesque town of Heidelberg. The day was packed with history, culture, and festive cheer!
Our first stop was the magnificent Schloss Heidelberg. This castle, perched on a hill, offered stunning views of the town below. We took a guided tour and explored the fascinating Apothecary Museum, the serene Chapel of the Holy Spirit (Heiliggeist-Kapelle, built in 1300), and marveled at the enormous Heidelberg Tun (a giant wine barrel).

Next, we hopped on the Erlebnis Heidelberger Bergbahnen, a funicular railway that took us down to the town. The ride itself was an experience, offering beautiful vistas of the surrounding area.
Heidelberg’s charm was amplified by its delightful Christmas markets, all easily walkable. We visited six in total: Karlplatz, Kornmarkt, Marktplatz, Universitätsplatz, Anatomiegarten, and Bismarckplatz. Each market had its unique flair, and we snagged pink glühwein cups as souvenirs!

Our exploration continued with visits to several historic churches: the Church of the Holy Spirit, the Church of the Jesuits, Peterskirche, and Heiliggeist-Providenz. Each church had its own story and architectural beauty, adding to our day.
We also made a stop at the Heidelberg University Library, since my friend Lori loves libraries, and it was bustling with university students. As the day wound down, we enjoyed an early dinner at L’Osteria, savoring delicious Italian cuisine before catching the train back to Frankfurt. It was a perfect end to a day filled with exploration and discovery.

Tally For the Day:
- Coffee:Â 2
- Churches:Â 5
- Christmas Markets:Â 6
- Steps:Â 17,874
Stay tuned for more adventures as we continue our journey! 🚂✨
