Life if Either a Daring Adventure or Nothing
At the beginning of 2019, I decided that I would try one new thing/experience per month. Some months it was easy and I found multiple things to do; other months I struggled to find an activity that fit within my time and budget. I found some of these adventures locally and some of them in other cities. Wherever these experiences were, it forced me out my comfort zone and made me continue to learn and explore.
In January, I started off locally with a friend teaching me how to use Royal Icing to “flood” cookies for improved cookie decorating. After a Christmas season watching Holiday Baking Championship and Holiday Gingerbread Showdown, it seemed logical to improve my baking skills.
Well I am not a pro, I have a new found appreciation for those who turn out these spectacular creations! Thanks Jen for your tutelage!
Note: If you aren’t lucky enough to have a friend with these skills, finding a class should not be hard to find. Locally, I’ve seen Sweet Heather Anne ( https://www.sweetheatheranne.com/ ) and Life is Sweet ( https://lifeissweetbakeryandcafe.com/ ) offering classes.
In February, my friend Christa invited me to a Gong Immersion Class at Sacred Wave Gong Immersions and since I had never done this before, I said why not?
The 90-minute gong immersion class was more than I ever imagined! Resting on a cot with an eye mask and covered in a blanket, the class immediately immerses you in the sounds of multiple gongs to soothe your mind and body. The instructor, Christopher Davis, a certified national health professional with over 25 years of experience, led us through this class that aims to help quiet mental chatter, improve your chi and accelerate healing potential. At the end of the class, Christopher brought us back to the present gently and offered the finishing touch — a piece of chocolate to head back out into the world. It was like a vacation without leaving town!

Another February unique experience in the Detroit area is The Fowling Warehouse in Hamtramck. Fowling is bowling with a football. Not sure what to expect, we drove up to an industrial warehouse and went in. For $10, you can play all day!
Fowling is incredibly hard! Besides trying to throw a football with accuracy, hitting the pins is another story. The bowling part is the same – knock all 10 pins down and you win the game! If someone else’s ball hits your lane and knocks down a pin, it can help or hurt your chances of winning. Alcohol is encouraged and the Fowling Warehouse has a full bar and allows you to order in food!
After an exhausting hour of playing, we still had not knocked down our 10 pins. Overhand, underhand, rolling the football like a bowling ball, it didn’t make a difference! The pins would not fall down!
This game is not for the weak! While it was a fun time with two people, I think it would be much more fun with a group of people!
Stay tuned as we see what adventures March and beyond bring!
