213 Days and Counting…..

213 Days. This is how long life as we had known it has been interrupted. From the 1st day of work from home and no school (March 13th) till now, these 213 days have been a roller coaster of emotions, stress, fear, being overwhelmed and uncertainty.

I’ve struggled over these last 213 days to find motivation to read, to blog, to plan. I mean, how could I write a travel/adventure blog, when are biggest adventure during lockdown was renting a house in Michigan City, Indiana (about 5 miles across the Michigan border) to look at a set of 4 different walls?

Everyone knows how much I love to travel. So, I started Theme Nights for us as something fun to do as we “sheltered in place.”

We started in France with Croque Monsieurs and Madams and Tarte Aux Pommes to relive my September 2019 trip to Paris. We paired this with the movie, Hugo Cabret, based on the book that Sophia and I had read, “The Invention of Hugo Cabret.”

We had so much fun, we were hooked on theme nights!

Next up was Mongolia! We watched the movie Burn Your Maps about an 8-year old boy who believes he is a Mongolian goat herder. Sophia wants to visit Mongolia even more now! We noshed on Mongolian Beef and Mongolian Fudge for dinner. The Mongolian Beef was a huge hit and we have had it several times since then!

From Mongolia, we headed west to Greece, where we enjoyed chicken, homemade, tzatziki sauce, rice and baklava. We watched Mamma Mia!, which led us to Mamma Mia 2: Here We Go Again and playing the soundtracks on repeat for at least 6 weeks!

Next up: Germany and we took our work seriously, and made a German Chocolate Cake from scratch! It was delicious and we paired it with traditional German food from Metzger’s. We found an old (1964) Disney live action film called Emil and the Detectives, that took place in Berlin!

So far we have done some exploring in Europe and Asia, but we have lots more places to go! Check out my next blog to see where we go next! Hint: It takes place on a Tuesday!
